Supporting Extended Library Hours During Finals Week
WHEREAS, the library serves as a crucial academic resource for CAC students, providing essential study spaces, research materials, and quiet environments conducive to learning;
WHEREAS, during finals week, student demand for library services and study spaces increases significantly;
WHEREAS, current library hours may not adequately accommodate the intensive study schedules of students during this critical period;
WHEREAS, extended library hours would provide students with greater flexibility in their study schedules and reduce overcrowding during peak hours;
WHEREAS, many universities have successfully implemented extended library hours during finals periods with positive results;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Department of the CAC Student Government:
Section 1. Support for Extended Hours
The Legislative Department hereby expresses its strong support for extending library operating hours to 24/7 during finals week each semester.
Section 2. Urging College Administration
The College Administration is respectfully urged to:
- Implement 24/7 library access during the week preceding final examinations
- Ensure adequate staffing and security during extended hours
- Provide necessary resources and support services during these extended periods
Section 3. Student Benefits
This initiative would provide the following benefits to students:
- Increased access to study spaces and research materials
- Reduced overcrowding during traditional peak hours
- Greater flexibility for students with varying study schedules
- Enhanced academic support during the most critical study period
Section 4. Implementation Considerations
The Legislative Department recommends:
- Pilot implementation for one semester to assess effectiveness
- Student feedback collection to evaluate the programβs success
- Coordination with campus security for safety during overnight hours
- Provision of basic amenities (water, restrooms, emergency contacts)
Section 5. Funding and Resources
The Student Government expresses willingness to:
- Contribute to funding for additional staffing costs
- Provide student volunteers to assist with library operations
- Support promotional efforts to inform students of extended hours
Section 6. Transmittal
Copies of this resolution shall be transmitted to:
- College Dean and Administration
- Library Director
- Student Government Executive Department
- All student organizations
Section 7. Effectivity
This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
